Washington Gas delivers natural gas to more than 1 million residential, commercial, and industrial customers throughout Washington, DC. The company is relocating its corporate headquarters to 1000 Maine Avenue SW, with offices for nearly 200 Washington Gas employees, including its executive officers as well as its financial, legal, and corporate work.

Washington Gas chose The Wharf because of its commitment to revitalize the District, create a new vibrant business culture, and implement diverse and sustainable energy practices.

1000 Maine Avenue SW has been designed to meet LEED Gold Core and Shell green building standards, offering a state-of-the-art workplace, cutting-edge technology, and close proximity to public transportation for employees. The Wharf also features multiple forms of on-site sustainable energy production and conservation, such as a natural gas combined heat and power (CHP) plant, energy-efficient lighting, and solar panels.

In addition, Washington Gas plans to own, operate, and maintain a 39.3 kW solar system that will generate 49,243 kWh of power per year in the common areas of the apartment building adjacent to the company’s headquarters at The Wharf.
