This event has been canceled - Due to the chilly spring weather, The Boathouse is unable to send kayaks into the below 50-degree water temperatures—causing us to have to cancel the Paddle the Channel event.

Celebrate Earth Day by giving our local waterway a little TLC. You can help GPSA, Green the Wharf DC, and others in The Wharf community collect trash from the Washington Channel. The event will start with a brief safety training, then we’ll clean up the water from Recreation Pier at 7th Street SW to the Titanic Memorial at P Street SW by kayak. After the cleanup, we’ll rendezvous at a Wharf restaurant for an Earth Day celebration. We can’t wait to roll up our sleeves and enjoy some fresh air together! Meet us at Recreation Pier.

What can you bring?

Though we’ll have some nets for fishing trash out of the water, we highly encourage volunteers to bring their own as well. Any volunteers willing to rent kayaks for in-water trash removal are highly encouraged to do so!

What will we have?

We’ve partnered with the Alice Ferguson Foundation, which will provide free gloves and bags. The Wharf, along with Gangplank Marina, will provide recycling, trash removal, and an extra manned boat.

Register to help here, and rent a kayak for the cleanup ahead of time here.
